So much for the idea that salt is bad for you and should be avoided at all costs. I found the following this week at www.earthclinic.com and from what this suggests, urine was designed to have a natural salinity to it, and when somthing disrupts that balance ,i.e. removes that salt, the urinary tract becomes vulnerable to bacterial invadors,  which are the main cause of UTI & bladder infections.

Now all the usual caviats apply at this point: a)  I am NOT a doctor & b) I have NO medical training, whatsoever. c) I enjoy  presenting information that maybe helpful to some, but d) I cannot & will not tell you what is best to do in your particular situation.

Remedies to Try:

Sea Salt + Cranberry Juice (NO SUGAR) + water

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: “The best UTI remedy so far the simplest and is the fastest is the sea salt remedy. The dose is 1 teaspoon of sea salt dissolved in a full glass of water, plus drinking the cranberry juice or mannose powder roughly 2 teaspoons x 5 a day will usually do it. The sea salt remedy is taken only one dose and there’s no need to take an additional dose. The bacteria causing the UTI appears to have a weakness to salt. In fact drinking too much water reduces the salinity of the urine which encourages the UTI. Therefore addition of sea salt one dose should see a relief in pain within a matter of minutes. The maintenance dose thereafter is only 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon per ONE LITER of drinking water. This is the most effective remedy I have found so far.

Alka- Seltzer

Bayer Aspirin will never confirm this, but many people find relief from urinary urgency by taking Alka Seltzer. This home-remedy works on the same principle as the one outlined above, manily that the ol’ PLOP-PLOP, FIZZ-FIZZ alkalizes the urine, killing foreign bacterial invaders.

Baking Soda

Again, the same refrain, alkalization. But this time with baking soda, one of the most potent antibacterials known. Stir 1 teaspoon into a glass of water and drink it down.  Repeat twice daily for up to ten 10 days. NOTE: If you try this, be sure to take B-complex daily, as persistent use of baking soda can deplete the body of B vitamins.

In General:

If UTIs are a problem for you:

  • limit the refined carbs, seriously! Nix the sugar and the white flower as they surpress the immune system and add completely empty calories
  • It goes without saying, or should, but keep that area clean and dry
  • Eat mostly “alkalizing foods”. Google the term if you don’t know what I mean.
  • Stock up on the good bacteria. Quality yogurts and kefirs.
  • Water is a must for you and lemon should always be in it
  • Investigate issues like candida
  • Sure, try helping yourself athome first. Why pay the doc if you don’t have to? But, he or she is there if you do need them
